Midway through 2026 is a good time to consider year-end tax planning and a contribution to the Rescue Outreach Mission. On top of your list may be a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF).
Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)
- Age Eligibility: No age restrictions.
- Contribution Source: Cash, appreciated securities, and other assets.
- Tax Benefit: You receive an immediate, upfront charitable deduction for the tax year the fund is established or replenished. It is highly useful for “bunching” donations to exceed the standard deduction in high-income years.
- Distribution Control: Funds are irrevocable commitments to philanthropy, but you have ultimate flexibility on which charities receive the money and when.
Additionally, if you are eligible, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is an excellent vehicle for maximizing tax savings when making a contribution.
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
- Age Eligibility: Must be 70 ½ or older at the time of distribution.
- Contribution Source: Traditional or Roth IRAs only (not 401(k)s or other workplace plans).
- Annual Limit: Maximum of $111,000 per taxpayer.
- Tax Benefit: The distribution does not count as taxable income. It effectively lowers your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and satisfies your Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) without relying on itemized deductions.
Speak with your tax advisor. With proper planning, multiple charitable vehicles can work together to complement one another in support of the Rescue Outreach Mission and the charities you support.
